A coloured antique map of England and Wales, from the 'Theatrum Orbis Terrarum', by Abraham Ortelius. The title is within a very elaborate strapwork cartouche, with the royal coat of arms on the central boss. Ireland is decorated with sheep and the sea area is decorated with ships and sea creatures. There is a bar scale in English miles (corrected). In the first state of this map, which was used up until 1584, the scale in the top right corner incorrectly reads "30-40-60-60-70-80". The map has Latin text on the verso with the number 12 beneath and crossed arrows watermark in western sector of the map.
