The 1798 version of this map ( not to be confused with the 1897 version) Delineated from actual Survey by Thos. Probdert Land Survyr. Shows the locations and positions of The British Troops and the Enemy, during the two day Invasion. A small invasion force, La Legion Noire, consisting of approximately 1400 troops aboard four warships, attempted to land at Fishguard, under the command of elderly American William Tate. They surrendered to Lord Cawdor two days later, on the 24 February. In 1798 a copy of this map presented to Lord Cawdor, following his capture of the French troops.
Several old tears around the margins which have been crudely repaired, some paper loss in both bottom corners. Top has been trimmed to printed border and the dedication at the bottom of the map has been removed.
