Bartlett was a British landscape artist famous for his views of all parts of the world which appeared in a series of travel volumes issued in the nineteenth century. Original hand outline colour along the course of Bartlett's travels.

An antique map of Iowa . Covers the entire state as well as neighbouring parts of Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. Like most of Colton's state maps, this map is largely derived from an earlier wall map of North America produced by Colton and D. Griffing Johnson. Colton identifies various cities, towns, forts, rivers, rapids, fords, and an assortment of additional topographical details. Map is hand colored in pink, green, yellow and blue pastels to define county and state boundaries. Surrounded by Colton's typical spiral motif border. Dated and copyrighted to J. H. Colton, 1855.

Numerous Indian nations are located throughout. The most interesting feature of the map is the uncoloured vignette Chute du Niagara. This unusual view of Niagara Falls, drawn by Frederic Legrip, and engraved by Schroeder features the great falls surrounded by palm trees. Map engraved by L.A. Sengteller.

An antique map of Pennsylvania "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1843 by Sidney E. Morse and Samuel Breese in the Clerks Office of the Southern District of New York." This map is from the Cerographic Atlas of the United States, supplement to the New York Observer. It has been colored by the cerographic printing process (a type of lithography) which left a grid of very fine green lines and a thick green line for the county boundaries. There are inset maps of Philadelphia and the coal regions'. Longitude from Washington at bottom, from Greenwich at top.

This map was issued only six years after Iowa became a state and development is still confined to the eastern part of the state and along major waterways. An antique map which covers the entire country, issued just prior to the beginning of the Civil War, which is the main focus of the map. The colour code indicates Federal Non-Slaveholding States (pink), States bordering Slaveholding States (blue), and the Confederate Slaveholding States (yellow). Also indicates the Indian Territory with its own colour (green). The large Washington Territory extends east to the Continental Divide and south to the Utah Territory. The proposed Territory of Arizona is shown in the southern part of New Mexico Territory. A huge Dakota Territory extends from Minnesota to Washington. The map is surrounded by a decorative vine and leaf border. An uncommon pre-Civil War issue that was published by the London Printing and Publishing Company. Circa 1861. Original colouring. Several old vertical and horizontal folds with some foxing.
