An important engraver of the eighteenth century, his antique maps are copper-plate engravings and usually contain a decorative title cartouche with a view typical of the county. Trimmed close to upper border. Circa 1784. Later colour.

This antique county map by Lt. R.K. DAWSON. R.E. is one of several compiled between 1831 and 1832 showing the "Proposed Division of Counties and Boundaries of Boroughs". The colouring is original.

Michael Drayton

In 1612, Michael DRAYTON published the first edition of his "Poly-Olbion" which was a book of verse about the countryside of England and Wales illustrated by antique maps depicting Tracts, Rivers, Mountains and forests in each respective area. The final edition was published in 1622. The colouring is later. Except for the bottom marging the map has been cropped to plate mark.
